The
Lower Sukhumvit Darts League.
A captain’s meeting was held on Tuesday 25th April 2006, at which
some old comments were reiterated, and some new rules were made. The plan for
Season XII is to have two divisions, based upon standings in Season XI. Due to
new teams joining, and other teams changing, the new start date of the league
will be Tuesday 20th June 2006.
• GENERAL. Generally, as a fun league, we do not
wish to legislate excessively, but rather to offer guidelines. Most issues that
have ever arisen could be sorted out far better with communication at the time
than they could be sorted by complaining afterwards. All issues should be
attempted to be solved by the Captains at the time, and only when this is not
possible are issues raised with the league management or Captains’ Committee.
• CAPTAINS. It is the responsibility of Captains to manage their teams and
liaise with their home venues and the opposing teams. For instance, if the
visitors have any form of problem at a venue, the correct procedure would be to
talk to the home Captain and see if the situation can be amicably resolved. If
there is a problem with lighting or such that takes a little longer, the home
Captain should liaise with the venue to find a solution.
• BARS. Bars are not absolutely required to provide food, rounds of drinks, or
offer special league prices. If they wish to do so, the league will of course be
grateful, and it is the duty of Team Captains to liaise with the bars on this.
• DIVISIONS. There will be two divisions of eight teams each (or seven with a
bye if necessary), and providing this proves viable over the longer term there
will be a promotion and demotion system of two up and two down. There will be
playoffs at the end of the season.
• TROPHIES. No money is involved in the league because of the disagreements
money so easily causes. Therefore trophies and after-season-events will only be
contemplated if there is sufficient interest towards the end of the season. If a
sponsor requests the opportunity to sponsor the league, this will necessarily
change.
• SCORESHEETS. All scoresheets must be submitted by the end of the next day at
the latest. A list will be kept of teams that fail to submit scoresheets, and if
they reach three scoresheets, they will be fined one match-point. A further
three failures will lose them another match-point. Scoresheets can be submitted
in the following ways:
o delivered on the match-night
o faxed to the fax number on the scoresheet
o scanned / photographed and emailed to the email address on the scoresheet
o delivered to Flaming Moe’s bar
• MICKEY MOUSE. If at any time during a Mickey Mouse a team wishes to forfeit
and lose, they may default the game to the other team and the points will be
frozen at the level that they are at.
• PLAYER ETIQUETTE. There have been breaches of player etiquette, but everyone
really should know how to behave. Again, it can be resolved amicably by speaking
to the player involved or the Captain.
• STARTING TIME. Games start at 8 o’clock. Lee-way is granted until
half-past-eight, but if no-one has arrived or been in contact by then, the
singles games may be claimed. If this continues until quarter-to-nine, then the
whole match is forfeit. This applies regardless of whether a home team is
awaiting visitors, or the visitors are awaiting the home team. Again,
flexibility is encouraged, so the playing order can be altered if both Captains
agree. Manners are also encouraged, and if a team is not going to arrive by
eight-thirty then the opponents should be notified. Also, this does not mean
teams are free to arrive late and expect to start at eight-thirty: games start
at eight and anyone who is not there at that time is late!
• CHANGING TEAMS. Swapping teams during the season is allowed under special
circumstances only, but is generally discouraged! The rules for swaps are that a
player may move only once and not return; that previous points are frozen; and
that player starts again from the beginning for the new team, preferably under a
new name.
• TOP PLAYERS. As a fun league, the league has for a long time asked teams not
to field any players of a certain standard, that being approximately division
one or two of the top Bangkok leagues or equivalent.
• STANDARDS. Venues are expected to have conditions according to normal darts
standards. However, as the league is generally a small-bar league, a certain
amount of lee-way is expected, especially with regards to bathroom access etc.
• OLD NOTES. Some old league notes were issued many seasons ago when bar closing
was set at midnight. Some of these notes may not be so applicable now, as they
relate mainly to getting games over in time, but they all still stand and can be
found on the website.
• TEAMS. If any Captains or players have any comments please contact the league
at LSDL@bamboosiam.com. Any captains who have not supplied their email address
should also do so, and any player email addresses can also be supplied.
Notes and Guidelines
(These notes were introduced at a time when bars were required to close at
midnight).
As many venues may wish or need to close by midnight depending upon
enforecement, the following are
suggestions for speeding up gameplay:
Doubles matches may be played as 601 or 501 instead of 701. This should be
decided by both captains before the match starts, or before the doubles starts,
certainly before a game starts.
When a leg arrives at both players aiming for double-one (“madhouse”), once
the player throwing has completed his turn, each player will have a maximum of
three sets (nine darts) at the double. If the leg is not won in this time, it
is decided by a one-dart nearest the bull, and the winner will be credited with
a close as if the double one had been achieved. Use of this should be agreed by
captains in advance.
The starting time should be at eight o’clock, but with lee-way granted until
eight-thirty. If a team will be late, please contact your opponent with
details. If no team players have arrived by eight-thirty, and there has been no
contact, then at that time the other team may claim the three singles without
play. If there is still no-show and no-contact by eight-forty-five the whole
match may be claimed.
Players should be at the “oche” ready to throw as soon as is reasonable.
Even a short delay multiplied out over all of the legs played can result in a
substantial amount of time wasted waiting.
All games must be completed, even if time is running out. In an emergency
therefore, remaining legs may be reduced to 101, or the Mickey Mouse played
without 15, 16, 17, and doubles. In the worst case scenario of imminent
closure, captains may agree to any reasonable method of allocating points,
including playing nearest the bull to decide legs.
Other miscellaneous points are also worth a mention, for captains in
particular.
Any player should only play for one team during a season, and no major
league’s first or second division players should be fielded, in the interests of
fairness.
When you have 180s or high closes (100 or over) please try to squeeze all
those details into the box (above captain’s signature) on the scoresheet.
Tons may be recorded with an “x”, or with the number scored, at your
preference, so long as 180s and high closes are clearly indicated.
When totalling legs, please do not include the Mickey Mouse game, but please
remember to include Mickey Mouse game scores.
If you wish to include anything in the weekly write-ups, either make notes on
the scoresheets or send an email to the address provided.
