Game Report - Round 15 - Offshore Go Overboard!

Offshore Overboards have gone top!  Round 15 saw league leaders HiTech Divers play second placed Offshore Overboards at Larry's Dive.  The hosts had a reduced team due to players out of the country, and the visitors brought along their top guns.  The result was a ten to nil victory for the visitors, which was enough to tie the two teams on match points but put Offshore top on game points.  Had HiTech secured just one point then the game points would have been tied and leadership of the table would have gone down to legs, which has already happened once this season, when the Divers led Chip Shop Job after round seven, being tied on match points and on game points, but with the Divers leading by only one leg.  Considering the situation in the rest of the table, this makes season ten one of the tightest and most competitive seasons ever!

Elsewhere, third placed Chip Shop Job managed to maintain their position at third at the head of three teams tied on seventeen points, despite only managing a draw against Starlight Blues.  The game featured an incredibly tight and high scoring singles match between Kenny and Julian, with Kenny checking the third leg.  The Job led four to one after the first doubles, but lost the next two to set up the Mouse for the draw, which they managed thanks to Kenny's triple twenty game opening dart, and pinpoint accuracy thereafter.  An honourable mention must go to Starlight's captain Charlie, who when he feels it is necessary, selflessly sacrifices his own participation when the game comes down to the wire, as he did this time leading his team from his seat in the hope of a victory.

Silver Dollar travelled away to Flaming Moe's, and took them to pieces!  (Sorry Jayke!)  On took her singles in what must have felt like a great start, but the home team's record after that was reduced to only scoring two tons, with the Dollar boys putting in a commanding performance.  Ben remains at the top of the singles average table being the only player in the league to maintain a perfect singles average of twelve wins from twelve singles.  He also managed an individual points tally of twenty this week.

Graham put in a performance to be proud of as he led his team to victory over Cat's Meow.  His five checks and nine tons earned him a total of twenty-two individual points, which both helped secure the game for the team and at the same time put a little breathing space between himself and main rival Steve at the top of the individual standings.

Captain Taxi led his team to victory for the third time this season, this time against Midnight Cowboys.  Wai was at her dangerous best, but strong performances from both Jamie and Matt guaranteed them a point after the doubles, and they made it two by taking the Mickey Mouse by a hundred points.

With the two leaders on twenty-two each, three teams on seventeen points, then two on sixteen and two on eight, none of the positions are yet guaranteed.  HITECH DIVERS have led pretty much the whole season, but are now in second only on points difference.  They have players missing now, but have a game in hand against Chip Shop Job which will be played the Tuesday after the last scheduled matches at the Offshore, with all other league players welcome to come along and barrack, sneer and cheer.  The  Divers' lead-in apart from that sees them face the Starlights, Moe's and then the Cowboys, so they won't be thinking that they've scored their last points just yet!  OFFSHORE OVERBOARDS have picked their timing very nicely.  They may not have the advantage of a game in hand but will be happy with their run-in which sees them face Moe's, The Cows, and then The Dons.

CHIP SHOP JOB have that game in hand against The Divers, and if things go right for them that could make all the difference.  The Job however must still face The Cowboys the Cats and The Dollar before squaring off against the Divers at the chip shop.  STARLIGHT BLUES and THE NEW COWS are also tied on seventeen apiece.  The Cows face The Dollar first, then leaders The Overboards, before closing their season to Moe's.  The Blues on the other hand will be looking for a strong performance against the Divers next week, to be followed by matches against The Cowboys and The Cats to close.

Tied on sixteen are SILVER DOLLAR and CAT'S MEOW.  The Dollar were bottom for the first two rounds, but obviously didn't like it down there and have since beaten everyone at least once except The New Cows and HiTech Divers, both of whom they have at least taken one point from.  They don't get another shot at the Divers, but will be keen against The New Cows next week to take more than the five points they got last time.  They then go on to face The Dons and Chip Shop Job.  The Cats meanwhile have The Dons, The Job and The Blues.

THE DUTCH DONS and FLAMING MOE'S are tied on eight points each, and will both be keen to come out of that particular battle on top.  Neither have an easy end to the season though, with The Dons facing The Cats, The Dollar and The Overboards, and Moe's facing The Overboards, The Divers and The Cows.  MIDNIGHT COWBOYS have two victories and a draw to be proud of, but again have a challenging season close, facing first The Job, then The Blues and The Divers.

This is repeated from last week:
As most players will know, this league does not usually make awards or give trophies at the end of the season, for the dual reasons that the league is only intended to be a fun league, and also because it's free to teams and players.  We have in the past however arranged different formats of end-of-season parties, and it has reached time to discuss this once again.  We have ten teams this season, so there are plenty of people to participate in a after season event, so bars owners, team captains and players should start thinking about what they want to do.  You can send an email or make your suggestions in person, but remember there are only four weeks to go!
