Game Report - Round 14

The top team in the league, HiTech Divers had a postponed game in Round 14, against third placed Chip Shop Job.  This gave the Offshore Overboards a chance to make some valuable points and they certainly took the opportunity.  The Overboards beat a Silver Dollar team who have been very strong in recent weeks, and rolled out their new secret weapon: a man called Malcolm!  Malcolm proceeded to turn the individual standings on their head, by putting in one ton-eighty amongst his ten tons, with a 113 high close, and a season record in individual points of 28, which catapulted him straight to number thirty-eight in the individual standings.  The Overboards won the game 6-4.

Elsewhere, a slightly tense game gave the Dutch Dons a point by drawing away to the Starlight Blues.  Flaming Moe's meanwhile visited Cat's Meow, and were determined to take at least a point from the encounter having not had any when they hosted the Cats earlier in the season.  Captain Jayke nearly assured this on his singles, but was beaten by some good darts from Meow.  He rallied his team though, and finally broke through in the third doubles to take a very valuable two points from the Cats.

The home derby at New Cowboy saw new team shirts all round, courtesy of Erik.  They perhaps didn't bring his team the luck he was seeking however, as the Midnight Cowboys went down 4-6 to the New Cows.  Graeme didn't manage to beat Wai in the singles however, and so didn't earn the individual points he was looking for to extend his lead in the individual table.  His slim two point lead did extend out to thirteen, but second placed Steve of HiTech Divers now has a valuable game-in-hand, and with his individual average of just over fourteen points per game, leadership of that table is as competitive as it can be.

Thirty-six players have now reached the minimum of six singles to be included in the singles averages table.  Ben (Silver Dollar) leads the table with a perfect eleven out of eleven.  Thirteen players have now achieved over one hundred individual points in the season.

As most players will know, this league does not usually make awards or give trophies at the end of the season, for the dual reasons that the league is only intended to be a fun league, and also because it's free to teams and players.  We have in the past however arranged different formats of end-of-season parties, and it has reached time to discuss this once again.  We have ten teams this season, so there are plenty of people to participate in a after season event, so bars owners, team captains and players should start thinking about what they want to do.  You can send an email or make your suggestions in person, but remember there are only four weeks to go!
