Playoff Finals

In the third and final round of the playoffs, the cup winners were CAT'S MEOW, who beat Star Job to the title in a 6-1 encounter.  In the plate finals, after not too many wins recently, everyone was delighted to see Captain Taxi lead THE DONS to victory over The Evicted Ones.  Season winners Starlight Blues were awarded the wooden spoon, having achieved three losses over the playoffs!

Cat’s Meow

In the surprise result of round two, season winners Starlight Blues faced bottom of the table Dons.  After losing two singles, the Dons mounted a fight-back, and won the first two doubles, guaranteeing a minimum of a draw.  The game went to the Mickey Mouse, which if it went to the Dons would mean a straight victory on points, but were it to go to Starlight would mean a draw, with Starlight through on legs.  However, Gavin, Jeff and Matt proved too strong for Lui, Julian and Charlie, and the 291-147 result gave The Dons victory over the champions!

Elsewhere, Graeme and Mike both lost their singles to Silver Dollar (Johnny and Ned respectively), but the Job bounced back and took the game by taking all three doubles.  Lighthouse did their level best to relive their end of season victory over Cat's Meow, but the game was drawn, with the Cats purring their way through to the next round on legs.  The Evicted Ones were without regular players Tom and Julian, but Trond bravely played on with on-loan players, and was rewarded with a victory over the Overboards.

All of this sees the Cup Final as Cat's Meow versus Star Job, to be played at the Offshore.  The Third / Fourth place playoff sees Lighthouse play Silver Dollar, a game which will take place at New Cowboy.  In the Shield, the final sees The Dons face The Evicted Ones at Starlight, and the playoff has champions Starlight Blues battling for pride against the Offshore Overboards at Silver Dollar.

League Notices

A short meeting was held after round two at Cat's Meow.  The starting date of Season IX was set as the 15th of July, with all games played on Thursday evenings.  Doubles matches will be reduced to 601.

Cat’s Meow

Season winners Starlight Blues had to face their major challengers, Cat's Meow in the first round of the playoffs.  The game was tight, ending up a five-each draw, but Cat's Meow go through on legs.  At Corleone's, Offshore Overboards waited until the last doubles to open their scoring account, meaning that they play in the shield while opponents Star Job go to the cup.  Lighthouse faced the Dons, and proceeded to the cup, winning seven-three.  Meanwhile at the Offshore, Silver Dollar (who managed five draws but no wins in the regular season) scored a six-three victory over the Evicted Ones.

The draw for round two took place shortly after all the games were over, and full details appear below.  In the cup, two teams gained home matches, although whether it will prove to be an advantage remains to be seen.  In a repeat of the last game of the season, Lighthouse travel to Washington Square to face Cat's Meow, and will doubtless be hoping to repeat their victory.  Silver Dollar meanwhile, host Star Job.

In the shield second round, Champions Starlight Blues face The Dons at Texas Lone Star, and The Evicted Ones return yet again to the chip shop to face the Offshore Overboards.

Post Season Playoffs

The post-season playoffs will work as follows.  All teams have been drawn for round one, and play at neutral venues, as detailed below.

Round two will see the winners play in the “cup” competition, and the losers will play in the “shield” competition.  This will again be drawn, and will use the format below, so some teams may through the draw receive home advantage.

All teams will continue to play into round three, be it in a final or a third-place-playoff.

Special Rules:

bulletWeeks 1 and 2 are drawn.  If you’re against someone you feel you can beat, then great.  If not, then please don’t whinge.  It’s a draw, and that’s what happens.
bulletNo-one has home advantage, as far as scoring is concerned.  If the bar doesn’t provide a scorer then share the responsibility.  We are dart players, and we can do this.
bulletThere will be a league meeting after the week 2 games, at one of the Washington Square bars.  All can attend, but it would be nice if the captain or a representative of each team could attend.  Please email any suggested agenda items to the normal address.
bulletFor this to work, games cannot be drawn, so if the points are level at the end, it will be decided on legs.  In the unlikely event of that also being tied, it will go by Mickey Mouse score, just so that the beer can be involved in the outcome.
bulletAs the second round is drawn, completing games once a six-point winning margin has been achieved becomes optional.
bulletFeel free to agree to play doubles as 501 if you prefer.
