Challengers have been rising for the
Individual Points crown, and current leader, sir Andy, the chequered
knight of Manchester, faced one of them in the field of battle in
Round Six. Andy retains his place at the table-top, his three
closes and six tons having pushed him to be the first to go over the
hundred-point mark. He limps away from the encounter however,
having been wounded not only in losing his singles (breaking a chain
of victories extending back long before the advent of this league),
but also with the knowledge that the fine performance that beat him
also took away his record of the highest individual tally in a
single match. Congratulations must go out therefore to the victor,
to sir Kenny of Halifax-Maximus, who
with his thirteen tons and four checks sets a new league record of
twenty-four points.
That superb bout saw Kenny rise to
third in the standings, just behind Ned, although the gap between
first and second widened. With eighteen points this week to Kevin
of Chequers’ Checkers, (with his second league one-eighty), sixteen
to Johnny of Moonshine Joint and ten each to both Peter and Bruce of
Offshore Overboards, the top of the standings are still highly
competitive. Another fine individual performance was nineteen
points to Ian of Buffalo Rangers, who did most of the damage in his
team’s second victory, which incidentally means that the only two
games he has played in are the two they have won!
The top and bottom of the overall team
table are starting to look a little fixed, although round six saw
changes in the middle. Moonshine Joint hosted Buffalo Job, and one
point was taken by each team from the encounter. This was enough to
move Moonshine Joint up into second place once again, with
Maximus falling to third, having lost
three-seven to Chequers’ Checkers despite that fine individual
performance by Kenny. Ian’s help and the team performance in the
Mickey Mouse gave Buffalo Rangers a six-four victory over the
Offshore Overboards, resulting in the two teams changing places in
the standings.
Round Seven of the league is delayed
until after Songkran, with the fixtures
set for April 24th.
